Mirrors

Mirroring (the term I use to describe it) has been a consistent technique I’ve dabbled in throughout my photo life. It starts with seeing an image that might look interesting if it was mirrored against itself — something involving patterns and repetition that makes a good starting point. I then duplicate the original file and flip the new image 180 degrees. Using a combination of photojoiner.net and Adobe products, I put the images together to make new canvases that are alive with patterns and symmetry.

I find them akin to mandalas, the designs first attributed to Hinduism that symbolize the universe, wholeness, or spiritual journeys, meant to draw the viewers’ attention inward to contemplate the cosmic realm. I find them peaceful, both in the practice of making and looking at them.
