Published Work - Black and White Magazine

I have an affinity for black-and-white imagery — photography history, documenting light, aesthetics, etc.. So, I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring when Black and White Magazine announced their Portfolio submissions were open last year. To my delight, I had three images selected for print and was given a Merit Award.

Falling Piano and Figure Heads were taken in 2020 when I was experimenting with studio treatment of organic material. Naming work is sometimes tricky, I tend to only worry about it when submitting work for competitions. Falling Piano is directly related to the White Stripes’ song ‘Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground’, while Figure Heads comes from the several animal-like faces and heads I see in the image. Meeting is self-explanatory. But, to note, I purposely cropped the image square when I named it. Animals in a cubicle related to human work lives. Something, something. It was taken in the early part of 2021 in Lemont, IL, USA.
